Kent & Medway Health and Care Academy

Become an health and care ambassador

Inspiring the next generation of health and care workforce

The Kent and Medway academy have been working with local health and care partners to develop a whole-system, coordinated approach to careers engagement. We want to promote all careers at every interaction and make the best use of our time and resources.

No matter that your role, or what stage of your career you are in; an expert within your field or just starting out, we want to hear from you. Your unique experience will show people of any age who are interested in health and care careers what is possible.

Why should you become an ambassador?

An ambassador role can provide opportunities for you to develop skills in leadership, mentoring and coaching, which may support your personal career development plan. It can also contribute towards your CPD (continuing professional development).

It is also an opportunity to see your career journey through another’s eyes and use your story to connect with others.

You will be helping to attract and inspire the workforce of tomorrow, promoting all career choices across all sectors of health and care.

Many young people, students or jobseekers are not aware of the 350+ careers in health or the many different roles available in social care, or not aware of the different places they can work. Some may not know that they can become a registered nurse through an apprenticeship route. Sharing this information supports the academy’s widening participation agenda, enabling people from all backgrounds and situations to access health and care careers. By being a part of this, you will be creating social value within your local community.

What can you expect?

Once you register, your organisational careers lead will be notified, and you will have access to the Kent and Medway health and care ambassadors NHS Futures network, where you can find information and guidance, as well as opportunities to contact other ambassadors and share your experiences and learning.

The academy will work with you and your careers lead to find a suitable event or engagement opportunity. You can attend as many events or respond to as many requests as you wish.

You can contact the academy team at any time by emailing us or through the discussion forums on the NHS Futures network. We appreciate your engagement and feedback. It helps us to understand what we can do to support you. The academy will continually review and improve the service with the aim to deliver high-quality, meaningful careers engagement.

How to register

Complete the form below and a member of the academy team will be in contact with you to welcome you and invite you to join the NHS Futures Ambassador network where you can connect with other ambassadors and find tools and resources.

You may already be a member of an ambassador network through your faculty or with your employer. This programme has been designed to complement these existing programmes and provide additional support to you as an ambassador.

This is a new programme (Nov 2024) and so it is our aim to work with our ambassadors to develop a high-quality, high-value careers service that is as meaningful and valuable as possible.

Feedback

Feedback from local organisations who have used health and care ambassadors

“Thank you so much again for coming in to speak to our business students this week about your role and career path. It was incredibly interesting, and the students and I had lots of conversations afterwards about what they heard, and what they learned from listening to you. […] Many hadn't considered financial management as a different role to finance accounting and so that led to a lot of interest. Overall, it was really enlightening for them to gain a better insight into how the NHS funding works, and the kinds of decisions you are having to make on how and where that funding is spent. Thank you again, your talk was a valuable part of my students' learning this year, and I hope we can welcome you again next year, to speak to the next business cohort.”
